A Beautiful Mind may be an older film, but it is on Netflix which is why I reviewed it. This Oscar-winning movie starring Russel Crowe as John Nash, is full of unexpected twists and turns and is a well made movie. Trailer here.

What is it about?
This movie follows the life John Nash, a mathematical genius with bad people skills, whose life takes a darker turn after accepting a job in deciphering codes for the Untied States during the Cold War.
Positive Content
Nash's college roommate Charles is one of Nash's biggest supporters, being there to encourage him and sometimes do things like remind him to eat. Charles even later takes in his niece when his sister dies in a car crash. Charles also tells Nash: "Mathematics won’t lead you to higher truth." a good reminder for anyone in the audience, whether it be sports, success, etc. Nash recognizes that the best outcome is a result of the group working together instead of as individuals. Nash continues to serve his country even when it becomes a danger to himself, and when it becomes a danger to his wife he urges her to go to her sister's to be safe. His wife stays with him and cares for him even after he struggles (I'm being vague to avoid spoilers). One of Nash's old classmates from Princeton who treated him poorly earlier, graciously allows Nash to be a part of the Princeton community again.
Negatives
First off, Nash encourages ditching class.

He is quite prideful through his younger years, and his peers are equally rude. They go out with the hope and intentions of getting laid. Nash is forward with women saying he just wants to have intercourse however no sex is shown. Later in the movie his wife reaches under the cover hoping to put Nash in the mood, but nothing further happens. There is a brief car chase scene that involves some shooting and results in the death of the "bad guys," but no blood or gore in that scene. Nash attempts to remove something he believes to be embedded in his arm, resulting in a decent amount of blood. Nash punches a man and his wife breaks a mirror in frustration. A few S words, and some misuse of the Lord's name.
Conclusion
A Beautiful Mind tells a very compelling story that teaches us about loyalty and love. The objectionable content was fairly minimal making this film movie night appropriate for older families. Also the plot may not interest younger audiences. Hope you found this helpful!
