Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)

Now first off, I do realize that none of you readers are concerned whether or not this movie is appropriate, but I reviewed this movie to analyze the subtle messages Disney Pixar is sending us viewers. What is it about? Ralph Breaks the Internet tells the story of Ralph and Penelope exploring the internet in search of a part to fix Penelope's game so it won't get unplugged. Positives Ralph is willing to go great lengths for his best friend; he sacrifices his comfort to make his best friend happy again. He also wants to keep her safe. Ultimately, he grows and can let go of her so she can fulfill her dream, trusting her to make her own decisions. Penelope doesn't want to hurt Ralph. Many of new characters the pair meet on their journey are eager to help them in their quest without having previously known them at all. The characters they meet in Slaughter Race are a tight-knit band of friends who stick together like family, and they quickly accept Penelope in their grou...

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (TATBILB) was released onto Netflix in August of this year and became a worldwide sensation, many people calling it one of the best romantic comedies of this generation. Netflix revealed that it was one of the streaming service’s most viewed original movies to date and plans for a sequel are already under way. It stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo, and is a charming high school romantic comedy that will appeal to both teens and adults alike. Trailer here . What is it about? A Star is Born (2018) Review

A Star is Born was released to theaters last month but has already received rave reviews, some even saying it is the movie to beat at the Oscars. It stars Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, and is a gritty but compelling story complete with a beautiful score.  Trailer here. What is it about? The movie follows Jackson, an alcoholic rockstar, and Ally, a waitress who sings at bars, as they meet and fall in love. As Ally rises in stardom, Jackson recedes further into his destructive addictions, and this has drastic effects on their relationship. Positive Content While Ally and Jackson are flawed, they have a very loving relationship, and both try to put each other first. Jackson has so much faith in Ally’s abilities and supports her in her career. Additionally, Jackson’s brother, Bobby (played by Sam Elliot), supports him and devotes his life to helping him, even though Jackson is very self-destructive. The movie promotes the importance of art and how it can be a medium to voice your ...

A Beautiful Mind (2001) Review

A Beautiful Mind  may be an older film, but it is on Netflix which is why I reviewed it. This Oscar-winning movie starring Russel Crowe as John Nash, is full of unexpected twists and turns and is a well made movie.  Trailer here. What is it about? This movie follows the life John Nash, a mathematical genius with bad people skills, whose life takes a darker turn after accepting a job in deciphering codes for the Untied States during the Cold War. Positive Content Nash's college roommate Charles is one of Nash's biggest supporters, being there to encourage him and sometimes do things like remind him to eat. Charles even later takes in his niece when his sister dies in a car crash. Charles also tells Nash: " Mathematics won’t lead you to higher truth." a good reminder for anyone in the audience, whether it be sports, success, etc.  Nash recognizes that the best outcome is a result of the group working together instead of as individuals. Nash continues to serve his c...
